Author and Publisher Felice Picano To Give Lecture and Sign Latest Work
Posted November 12, 2009
Author and Publisher Felice Picano, founder of the influential early gay publishing companies SeaHorse Press and The Gay Presses of New York, will give a lecture and hold a book signing in support of his latest work, Art & Sex in Greenwich Village, from 4:30-5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 17 in Carpenter 21.
Picano’s publishing companies set the tone for gay and lesbian publishing for decades and played an integral role in the development and growth of gay popular culture. For a decade or more, Picano found himself at the center of gay culture, and Art & Sex in Greenwich Village is his first-hand account of that historic confluence.
Among those who Picano introduced to the public via his publishing companies were Dennis Cooper, Harvey Fierstein, Jane Chambers, Brad Gooch, Robert Gluck, Doric Wilson, and Gavin Dillard.
In addition to Art & Sex in Greenwich Village, Picano’s books include The Book of Lies, Dryland’s End, and Tales: From a Distant Planet.
Picano’s appearance is sponsored by the Gender and Sexuality Studies Program and the Department of English.
