Nominations are now being accepted for the Newberry Award, a $1,000 prize given annually to a staff member who embodies the spirit of the College’s Green Plan by putting its principles into practice in the workplace. The award may be made to an individual staff member or collectively to a department. Staff members can nominate themselves or colleagues; faculty and students are also invited to submit nominations by downloading the nomination form and returning it to Paul Neuman in the Psychology Department by April 15.
The Newberry Award was created two years ago to honor former Assistant Undergraduate Dean Jan Newberry, who founded the Green Plan Committee. Designed as a set of principles to help guide College planning, purchasing, operations, and teaching, the Green Plan is intended to help integrate environmental responsibility with the College’s mission and priorities. The Newberry Award is funded by the proceeds of the Staff Association End of Year Sale, which recycles what students leave behind, and by a generous matching gift from the College. The 2010 Newberry Award winner will be selected by a committee of three faculty members and announced at the end of the semester.
