The following email was sent by Erica Cho, visiting assistant professor in history of art and film studies, on Monday, April 9:

We are pleased to announce the first Tri-Co Film Festival to be held on Wednesday evening May 2, 2012 featuring the best work by filmmakers from Haverford, Bryn Mawr, and Swarthmore Colleges! All Tri-Co students are eligible to submit their short films, and the selected finalists will be invited to screen their work at the Bryn Mawr Film Institute along with our featured graduating senior productions. This festival is an incredible chance for student filmmakers to take their films off-campus and have their work seen by both their peers across the Tri-Co and a wider public!

The screened films will be judged by independent film programmer Chi-hui Yang. From 2000-2010 Yang was the Director and Programmer of the San Francisco International Asian American Film Festival. As a guest curator, Yang has presented film and video series at film festivals and events internationally, including the 2011 and 2012 MOMA Documentary Fortnight, 2008 Robert Flaherty Film Seminar (“The Age of Migration”), Seattle International Film Festival, Washington D.C. International Film Festival and Barcelona Asian Film Festival. Yang is also the programmer of “Cinema Asian America,” a new On-Demand service offered by Comcast and a Visiting Scholar at NYU’s Center for Media, Culture and History.
