Graduate School of Social Work Ph.D. candidate Jessica Lee has been selected as a 2012-13 Greater Philadelphia Schweitzer Fellow.

The Schweitzer Fellowship program addresses the social factors that impact health by partnering with local community-based organizations to implement yearlong mentored service projects.  These projects are focused on issues such as unsafe housing, obesity, access to education, and access to healthcare that are of particular import to low income individuals and families. The program aims to create health professionals who can effectively address these social factors while treating patients throughout their careers.

Lee will spend her fellowship year implementing and institutionalizing a medical support services program at the Nationalities Service Center in Philadelphia. Her program will help refugees with high medical needs—particularly those with mental health conditions—learn how to navigate the health care system in Philadelphia.
