Nearly 150 college counselors from many of the nation’s most highly regarded private schools were on campus recently for the Association of College Counselors in Independent Schools 2012 Summer Institute.
In addition to the counselors, the summer institute brought several influential higher education reporters to campus for a panel discussion.
Eric Hoover of The Chronicle of Higher Education, Janet Lorin of Bloomberg News, and Jacques Steinberg of The New York Times all participated in the panel.
The institute kicked off on Sunday, June 17, with a reception hosted by Bryn Mawr President Jane McAuliffe and dinner in Thomas Great Hall.
Bryn Mawr representatives also took part in a panel on Tuesday, June 19, in which they talked about the many factors and individuals involved in making the decisions that ultimately shape each incoming class.
The panel consisted of Trustee Cynthia Archer, Provost Kim Cassidy, Chief Financial Officer John Griffith, and Chief Enrollment and Communications Officer Jenny Rickard. Dean of Admissions Laurie Koehler was the moderator.
Christine L. Pluta ’91, director of college counseling at Lycée Francais de New York, organized this year’s institute.
“Sharing Bryn Mawr with my college counseling colleagues was one of the most satisfying professional experiences I’ve ever had,” said Pluta. “I could barely contain my enthusiasm. By the end of the conference, the counselors seemed almost as excited about Bryn Mawr as I am. This was a very successful event.”
