President McAuliffe Thanks the Bryn Mawr Community After Hurricane Sandy

The following email was sent by President Jane McAuliffe to faculty, students, and staff on Wednesday, Oct. 31.

Dear Members of the Bryn Mawr Community,

Thanks to the good preparation, help, and cooperation of everyone in the Bryn Mawr community, the College fared quite well during Hurricane Sandy.  A tour of the campus reveals that only a few trees — and no buildings — sustained damage as a result of the storm.  The main campus has near 100% power but the Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research remains without power, so please offer any help to our friends and colleagues there.

I wish to extend particular gratitude to Jerry Berenson, Chief Administrative Officer, for his leadership during the past week.  Our folks in Facilities, Campus Safety, and Dining Services deserve special thanks for their extraordinary efforts to minimize and address the impact the storm would have on the students, as well as faculty and staff.  Many people in these departments worked around the clock, slept on campus, and left their families in order to serve our community.  Their commitment is both admirable and heartwarming.

Our students also deserve a shout out for their attention, patience, and good spirits during the past few days.  Thank you for heeding the many instructions during this time.

While an event like this is never welcomed, it has been wonderful to witness the Bryn Mawr community at its best.

With gratitude and best wishes to you and your families,
Jane McAuliffe
