The following email was sent to faculty and staff by Employment Manager Syndi Bleiweis on Tuesday, April 23.
Beginning with the 2013 fall semester the College will only guarantee jobs for students who have a student employment award from the College. The reason for this change in policy is that the College student employment budget is no longer adequate to provide funding for all students who want to work on campus. Since some students are promised a job in the from of a student employment award we must ensure that these students are hired for campus jobs before we can make available student positions to other students.
This means you will not be allowed to hire a student who does not have employment as part of their aid package until all students with employment aid have been hired.
The only exception to this rule is if you have a student currently working for you who you would like to rehire for the fall. You can rehire that student(s) but they must be rehired by June 15, 2013. After June 15th you must give priority to those with aid. We have added a question to the student employment application that asks students if they have a student employment award from the College so that you will know whether or not you can hire the student. This question will only appear on new jobs. Consequently, instead of relisting old jobs, we encourage you to create new jobs so that this clarifying question can be included with the information you receive from applicants. Any hiring requests for students not on aid will be rejected until all students on aid have jobs.
Please contact me if you have any questions about this change in policy or about the new procedures.
