2013 Fall Plenary Scheduled for Sept. 29

The following email was sent to faculty and staff by President of the Self-Government Association Natalie Kato on Friday, August 16.
Note: Plenary will begin at noon on Sept. 29.

Dear Faculty and Staff,

Hello! I hope this e-mail finds you well and that you are enjoying the summer! Even though we are out of school for the summer, the Self-Government Association has been busy planning for next year!

I am writing to let you know that the date for the Fall Plenary has been confirmed and will be held on September 29th. There will be a second email regarding the Spring Plenary date.

Plenary is a time when members of the undergraduate student body come together in Goodhart to vote on resolutions that are written and presented by students.  The purpose of Plenary is to foster beneficial discussion and change within the community. It is a long standing tradition and one of the strongest demonstrations of self-governance that we have at Bryn Mawr.

In order for plenary to start, we must reach a quorum of one-third of the undergraduate student body. This past spring, many changes were made to the format of Plenary so that attendance may become more feasible and easier for students.  We are creating a better study space in Goodhart and are starting earlier in order to assist students and reach a quorum sooner.

Now, we are reaching out to you, faculty and staff, in hopes that you will remember this date as you complete syllabi and work schedules.  This past Spring, we experienced a waiting period of about 3 hours before Plenary began.  In previous years, we have waited as long as 5 hours to reach quorum.

In addition, the SGA Executive Board has been planning a few events for the upcoming Fall semester and would much appreciate your support. Similar to last year, one of our goals is to continue to improve communication between students, faculty, staff, and administration.  To promote communication and information sharing we are exploring an event where we invite different organizations, faculty, staff, and administrators on campus to network with students.

The Executive Board additionally hopes to:
-make the Honor Board and Honor Code more present on campus
-further utilize Mawrk Notes (the SGA Newsletter)
-see SGA reach more people through the newly created listserv
-promote appointed positions
-encourage expression of concerns along with goal-oriented suggestions and solutions
