Volunteers Needed for International Student Friendship Program

The following email was sent to faculty and staff by Assistant Director of the Office of International Programs Patricia Lausch on Tuesday, August 20.

Dear Colleagues,

I am writing to extend to you the opportunity to participate in the International StudentFriendship Program. On August 26, 2013 , we will welcome over 100 new students from outside the U.S. to Bryn Mawr as they arrive for International Student Orientation.

The International Friendship Project provides new students with an opportunity to get to know a local individual or family during her/his first year at Bryn Mawr. Most volunteers are Bryn Mawr alumnae and/or faculty and staff who have expressed an interest in meeting and getting to know and provide extra support to international students while they are away from family and friends back home. Contact between hosts and students may be in the form of a phone call or e-mail every now and then to check in. Oftenfriendship partners may share time together at a movie, shopping, or at a family or holiday meal.

If you are interested in being an International Friendship Host, please let me know. Responses by August 30 would be greatly appreciated. Matches between hosts and students are done mostly at random. However, requests for students from specific countries, with certain interests or who speak certain languages would be helpful, but not guaranteed. We plan to host an International Friendship Program reception to connect students and hosts early in the fall semester. Details about the reception will be available in early September.

I am happy to answer any questions you may have about becoming involved.
