The following email was sent to faculty, students, and staff by Bryn Mawr African and Caribbean Students’ Organization (BACaSO) Secretary Fiona Gambanga ’15 on Wednesday, Dec. 11.
We are inviting you all to join BACaSO as we host a candlelight vigil for Nelson Mandela this Friday, Dec. 13 at 6 p.m. in Thomas 110. Feel free to bring any candles you have if you want, or anything to remember and honor and celebrate the life of a great man who stood against the evils of apartheid, racism, and oppression in South Africa.
There will be a reading of a short eulogy of his life and then quotes from him, as well as a platform for those who might want to share. It’s more of an intimate setting, and please feel free to come even if you know little to nothing about him. Take it as a platform to learn about his place in African and World History and what it means to other African students on campus.
Invite your friends and see you all there.
