Campus-Wide Power Outages Planned for Saturday, March 8

The below email was send by Director of Facilities Glenn Smith on Wednesday, Feb. 6.

The ice storm and resulting campus-wide electrical outage on February 5-6 caused damage to our high voltage electrical substation.  Although PECO power is now fully restored, this damage has left us in a vulnerable condition with fewer options should another outage occur.

The necessary repairs are scheduled for Saturday, March 8, the first day of Spring Break.  The work will require a series of campus-wide power outages, starting at approximately 7:00 AM.  The nature of repairs and testing require that we turn off all campus power, likely multiple times during the day.  The longest total outage will likely be no more then four continuous hours, with interruptions occurring multiple times throughout that day.  If our assessments are accurate, we should be able to make final repairs that day and be finished by 5:00 PM.  Should we discover more damage than we anticipate, a revised bulletin will be broadcast.

The following buildings will NOT be affected:  Pen-y-Groes, Social Work, Arnecliffe, 300 Morris, Pensby, West House, Child Study Institute.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we continue our recovery from this winter’s storms.  Any questions should be directed to Facilities Services at X7930.
