A Message from the Health Center

Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff,

There has been a good deal of discussion recently in reaction to articles that appeared in the Swarthmore Phoenix and on the website BuzzFeed in connection with a college health and wellness program. A multidisciplinary group of professionals from the Health Center, Dining Services and the Athletic Department designed and offered this program for students with certain indicators of potential health risks. The program includes individual counseling, nutrition advice, group support and education, and a personalized fitness plan.

While this program has been offered successfully in the past, this semester several students have taken issue with some of the communications that were used to invite students to take advantage of this opportunity. On behalf of everyone involved with this program, I sincerely apologize to anyone who has been upset or offended by our communications, and I want to reassure the community that we will rethink our approaches and our assumptions moving forward.

I look forward to continuing to work with students, faculty, and staff as we create a culture of health, balance and wellness for the entire Bryn Mawr community.
