The following email was sent to faculty, students, and staff by President Kim Cassidy on Monday, Feb. 16.
Dear Members of the Staff,
In December, I announced that the date of our first all-campus community day of learning will be Wednesday, March 18, and our focus will be on race and ethnicity at Bryn Mawr and beyond. The program will run from 9:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Classes will be cancelled during this time period, and I am asking all campus offices and services to make it possible for as many staff members as possible to attend barring safety and emergency needs.
A volunteer planning committee of students, staff, and faculty have worked with my office to plan the day’s activities. These will include an opening and closing session that the entire community will attend; two interactive performances by the group Theater Delta; and dozens of sessions offered by faculty, students, staff, and outside facilitators from which you can choose. In developing ideas for these sessions, the planning group has tried to come up with topics that draw upon and address experiences and interests of faculty, staff, undergraduates, and graduate students. Please contact Ruth Lindeborg (firstname.lastname@example.org) in the President’s Office asap if you wish to propose a topic for possible addition to the schedule.
Building a stronger and more inclusive community is important for our students and for all of us. I hope this day will offer an opportunity for you to learn something new, to share your unique experiences and knowledge with others, and to gain a new perspective or skill to help you work through challenging situations.
Please join me, your peers, the students, and the faculty in learning about ways we can make Bryn Mawr a stronger and more welcoming community for all.
