The following email was sent to faculty, students, and staff by Director of Facilities Glenn Smith on Thursday, August 13.
This is a joint announcement being released by Campus Safety, Environmental Safety and Health, and Facilities.
Beginning Saturday, August 15, parking will no longer be permitted on the asphalt or gravel areas to the east of Pensby on North Roberts Road. New handicap-only designated spaces will replace all current parking in the driveway of Pensby and the gravel area will be closed off from vehicle access.
Parking is now available next to Brecon, across the street. This lot has been re-signed from “Student Parking” to “Permit Parking” such that any vehicle bearing a Bryn Mawr College sticker or permit may park here, and nine additional spaces have been designated. Parking adjacent to Batten House will remain “Student Parking” only.
There are two reasons we need to take this action: One is that it is not possible to effectively plow or remove snow and ice from gravel surfaces, and last winter a serious injury occurred while someone parked and walked in this area. Secondly, the Township has strict limits on the area of impervious (asphalt or gravel-covered) surfaces we are allotted, and we will need to repurpose the areas where the two houses formerly stood as open space in order to allow us to build a planned addition to the Park Science Building.
We collectively thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
