From Director of Intercultural Affairs Christopher MacDonald-Dennis:

Dear Members of the Bryn Mawr College Community,

The Office of Intercultural Affairs is now accepting nominations for the Thomas Prize in Diversity. With this prize, the College community honors those students who personify the characteristics that Dean Thomas exemplified: life-long learning around diversity, demonstrated commitment to and advocacy for inclusion, and the ability to inspire others to action.

Dr. Hayley S. Thomas joined the Bryn Mawr Community as an Assistant Dean and later became the Acting Director of the College’s Office of Institutional Diversity. During her time here, she became an invaluable resource through her facilitation of mentoring programs, direction of diversity seminars, and most importantly, her tireless dedication to supporting Bryn Mawr students. Sadly, in March of 2004 at the age of 32, the Bryn Mawr Community lost Dean Thomas to stomach cancer.

If you would like to nominate a student for the Thomas Prize, please submit it via email to We ask that you provide the student’s name, e-mail address and a short paragraph stating why you are nominating the student.

There is no limit to the number of nominations you may submit. Students will be notified of their nominations and in accepting the nomination, will then be asked to submit a resume, a letter of recommendation, and a short essay in response to a given question. Up to 3 students will be selected by the Thomas Prize Committee. Prize recipients will receive a cash award and will be honored later in the semester.

Nominations must be RECEIVED by Friday, March 25, 2011. We look forward to your nominations!
