The following was sent via email on April 14 to the Bryn Mawr community by Director of Dining Services Bernie Chung-Templeton:

It is with much sadness that I write you to tell you of Mimi Murray’s passing late yesterday afternoon, after a relatively short battle with cancer, which was discovered just last July.

Mimi Murray began working at Bryn Mawr in September 1991 as the Consulting Dietitian supporting both Bryn Mawr and Haverford Colleges. Mimi worked with the menu and recipe development team in Dining Services to ensure that a healthy balance of nutritious meals were offered to resident students on the board plan. Mimi also worked with the Health Centers at both Colleges as well as the counseling services teams to counsel students in an array of areas such as healthy eating, weight management, sports nutrition, eating disorders, food allergies, lactose intolerance, and other nutrition concerns. Mimi spent a majority of her time counseling students, meeting with them one-on-one, helping them navigate the menu, assisting them with getting their needs met. Mimi also worked with Athletics, taught the nutrition component of the Wellness Classes and in 2000 worked with students to create the Body Image Council and have been an active member and a part of every year since its inception. Mimi ran National Nutrition Month events on campus every year and was often seen around campus in her banana and broccoli earrings, fruit slice necklace and carrot slippers!

Mimi had a smile that lit up any room. She was full of life and positive energy. Most notable, was how much she truly enjoyed working with students. We already miss her dearly.

Friends may call Thursday, April 14 from 5 to 9 p.m., and Friday, April 15 from 10 a.m. followed by a funeral at 11 a.m., at Elam United Methodist Church, 1073 Smithbridge Road., Glen Mills.
